Ascend Advent 2022 Day 17: Following Jesus Won’t Be Easy
This is a strange kind of blessing, isn’t it? It’s more a foretelling and a revelation of what was to come. Parenting Jesus wasn’t going to be easy. I hope there was some other blessing before these words, because the rest is rather unsettling. Mary had been blessed in many ways during this time, but can you imagine how she felt when she heard that ‘a sword will pierce your own soul too?’

"Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, His mother: 'This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.'" Luke 2:34-35
